First review of our new album Another City Another Plan, out Sept 27! Here it is all the way from Sweden!
Check check check it out!

Riviera F - "Another City, Another Plan" (album)

..."Talking Heads vs. Modern Talking, Kraftwerk Vs. Abba, High Heels Vs. Highlights, Euro Boys Vs. West End Girls, Blue Veins vs. White Skin ". This is how the two girls of Riviera F describe their band and they pretty well hit the spot in both the general feeling and sound.

By making a hybrid of late 70s new wave / post-punk, early 80s minmal wave / electro and the 00s electro clash, Riviera F has come up with their own sound. It's cold, hard and melodic, and often high tempo. They blend mechanical and monotonous synth-disco beats with noisy new wave guitars and visions of dark rain soaked streets of London illuminated by car headlights and dim bar interiors fills my mind's eye.

I have followed Riviera F Myspace in around four years myself, so more than half of the ten songs on this their debut album is already familiar to me. Here are among others you can find their cover of Martha and the Muffins song "Echo Beach" and other old favorites such as "Girls and Money", "Posing for the cameras", "Lya Taboo" (brilliant!) and "Dance to the Beat". The melancholy song "Dance Alone" re-introduces the saxophone in popmusic and a strong 80's vibe is all around ... Of the songs I have not heard before, "Take You Down" a clear favorite but the other songs are all pretty good as well.

Although Riviera F sometimes are close the limit on how much electric guitar I personally can handle, this is always saved by their brilliant sense of melodies filled with energy and attitude. This is a great album, well worth checking out! On http://www.rivieraf.co.uk/ you can listen to most songs from the album, and songs from their two previous EPs and singles-release (produced by Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran).

We are very excited about the new addition to our label Germ Free! Artist Kyle Pittman AKA Heavy Sixer will be joining our label and releasing his brand new album Mondo Evolvo on Sept 20th.

Here's a little bit more info about him...
Heavy Sixer is the synth conquered offspring of 'Adam Heart' and 'The iLLiad' creator/front man Kyle Pittman. Kyle is a filmmaker, musician and artist from rural Ohio, USA where he has spent many years as an agoraphobic recluse who collects pop cans, masks and VHS tapes. Initially created as a one off side project under the moniker 'Jocko Homo', Kyle was persuaded to re-release the Jocko Homo album 'Mondo Evolvo' through the UK label 'Germ Free'.
As a concept album it should be listened to from start to finish preferably blasted out as the background music to a cinematic gruesome killing scene at a seedy nightclub, or down at the dark wood paneled basements that reek of stale pot and porno sound stages hidden somewhere in suberban middle America... Mondo Evolvo's sound is influenced by Eno, Beach Boys, Syd Barrett, Devo, Bowie and Marc Bolan to name but a few and will include new tracks and new album art.
Available as a digital release September 20th 2010.

Remember pop music when it was still magic? A mysterious, distant memory of a place you've never been to. This is Another City Another Plan, the sparkling debut from sultry Euro popsters Riviera F.

From the Pulp-esqe kitchen sink nightmare Hell On The Way, to the Abba meets Roxy Music (complete with sax solo) triumphant nostalgia of Dance Alone, going all Hey-Jude-Winner-Takes-It-All at the end, this album sees Riviera F bringing together their DIY bedroom punk spirit and mixing it all up with some carefully laid 90s beats and perfect pop sensibilities.

The more minimalist tracks such as Girls and Money and Posing For The Cameras are dangerously haunting, and almost military-sounding with their structured hooks taking you on strange, edgy journeys of crunchy synths and cheap romance.

It's not all dark and moody. Dance to The Beat has its Divine and Bobby O influences scribbled in red lipstick all over its 5" heels and PVC leopardskin catsuit. And hey, even West End girls can sometimes be riot grrrls! Check out Kairo's dirrrty guitar on Pick Up Star, all angular 70s new-wave bursting through the drum machine. More evidence of the dark pop influence of the late 70s and early 80s can be found when they re-visit Martha and the Muffins' new-wave classic Echo Beach. The result is much more fierce than the original and surprisingly ravey.

Stylishly effortless Take You Down and the gloriously cinematic The Last Time tell more tales of falling in love and inevitably falling apart. Lya Taboo (named after a character in the Bowie-starring film Just A Gigolo) is all dancy and instantly catchy with harsh, spoken vocals and wonky analogue synths.

From faux Eastern European fantasies to low rent East London grimness, this is a beautiful, soulful and modern album that gets it spot on and makes you want to press REPEAT. Pop goes the world.

Release is now delayed to the new date of September 27th. More time for promotion. Don't worry, if you pre-ordered, you will get your copies in June!!

Did we hear anyone say that self releasing is an easy option? Oh no. No no no no no no. Instead of getting some dude at the record label to sort this stuff out we've been busy with lots of the super tedious admin that's involved in registering our tracks and brand new label Germ Free. Yes, you heard it here first, we have now officially got our own label! It's Germ Free, very clean indeed. All this work will of course be totally worth it when we have the actual album in our hands; all nice and new and shiny! Not. Long. Now.

Thank you thank you for coming along to our first night of the glorious Club Stupid!! Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. We managed to play most of our most idiotic records without being asked to leave once and no one complained, except to say that some of the music "wasn't stupid enough"! That's what we like to hear!! Also, to the person who requested 'Coco Jambo' by Mr President, we were happy we could play this for you. The crowd went totally mental to Shakira and Rednex, yeah, who wouldn't?!
Oh and mega hurrah to Questionmark Bar lovely people. We were proved right to hope and dream that a place called Questionmark Bar would truly get what we were doing and not get arsey when top tunes by Holly Valance and Peter Andre get played to people wearing Jedward masks and Pikachu outfits! Lets do it again, soon, or your brain might regenerate.
